*QUENCH NOT THE SPIRIT’S FIRE (1)*

*Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:*
*Vs 18 And on my servants and on my| handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:*

Peter in seeking to explain the validity of speaking in tongues to his Jewish audience, resorted to the prophetic scriptures. This is for all who believe.

Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The promise Jesus made had been prophesied earlier by Joel

(Luke 24:49).

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

He said ‘they would receive power.’ This definitely had much to do with utterance (ability to speak). Hence, this was seen on the day of Pentecost in that the spirit gave them the ability to speak. This was made possible by the ascension of Christ upon his resurrection.

Act 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Vs 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

The demonstrations of the spirit were made available to believers.

God had wanted all through the ages to speak by His spirit (Numbers 11:29). Christ came to accomplish this as all the promises/plans of God are consummated in Him.

2nd Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Prophesying is one of such promises, recall that the ability to speak with tongues is premised on his redemptive work. Hence the promise concerning the outpouring of the spirit has been fulfilled.

CONFESSION:
I am a recipient of the fulfilled promise of God in Christ.
